Last year, we launched a limited, invite-only rollout of self-custody BAT payouts for Brave Rewards. This feature lets users get paid BAT directly to their own self-custody Solana wallet address. By starting with a select group of early participants, we were able to gather valuable feedback and improve the experience before expanding the feature further. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that this highly anticipated feature is now available to everyone.
Starting in Brave version 1.81.x on desktop and Android, users can now connect a self-custody Solana wallet address to Brave Rewards and start receiving BAT payouts in Wormhole-bridged BAT, directly on-chain 1. In line with the BAT Roadmap 3.0, users now have full control over their BAT earnings, reflecting our commitment to building a more decentralized and user-first ecosystem.
To get started receiving BAT payouts to a self-custody Solana wallet address, follow the instructions below:
Open the Brave browser and click / tap the BAT icon in the URL bar (or, alternatively, navigate to brave://rewards).
Select Connect account. (Note: you will only see this option if you do not already have a payout account connected. If you already have a payout account connected and want to use the self-custody Solana option instead, you’ll need to reset Brave Rewards first, or use a different browser profile.)
Select the self-custody Solana option, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
On desktop, you can use Brave Wallet or third-party extension wallets that support Solana to receive your Brave Rewards payouts. Brave Rewards on Android currently only supports Brave Wallet. On iOS, due to Apple App Store policies, Brave Rewards is limited, and this feature is not available at this time.
Some regional restrictions still apply. For example, this feature is unavailable to users in regions where Brave Rewards is unavailable. ↩︎
