Brave Launches Million Dollar Referral Program Supporting Publishers And YouTube Creators With Crypto-Tokens

Creators Earn Approximately 5 USD Worth of Promotional BAT
for Each Active User They Bring to the Brave Browser

Brave Software, which is combining an innovative browser with a blockchain-based digital advertising platform, announced today that it is launching an up to Million Dollar referral program to reward online publishers and YouTube creators. Brave will contribute promotional Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) to creators who get their fans to switch to the Brave browser. Brave is a faster, more private browser that also provides a built-in method of supporting content creators. Creators will earn BAT worth approximately 5 USD for each active user they bring to Brave.

The process for creators is simple: they invite their users to download Brave (via X, Facebook, links on their YouTube channels, or a campaign badge on their site) after activating the promotion via their Brave Payments account. Later, they collect BAT for each person referred to Brave who uses the browser – at least minimally – across 30 days. Publishers and creators that have not yet signed up with Brave need to verify their sites or channels here. Once verified, they – along with existing publishers and creators – will receive an email and promotional notices on how to take part.

Users who wish to support their favorite creators need to download the Brave browser using the creator’s referral link. Desktop users will be taken to a direct download of Brave, and mobile users will be taken to the iOS and Android stores. This campaign applies to users who are not yet Brave users, or users who may be using Brave on one platform but could download Brave on a different platform.

With this promotion, Brave expects to increase its user base, which recently passed 1.4 million monthly active users. The growth of users and publishers adopting Brave continues to drive greater utility for the Basic Attention Token platform.

Brave also aims to create an ecosystem of users who can automatically and anonymously support their favorite content providers by using the Brave browser and its integrated Brave Payments wallet. Users can load that wallet by purchasing BAT or by benefiting from various promotional BAT giveaways, such as our recent up to Million Dollar giveaway that resulted in 175,000 user grants.

“Online publishers and creators are finding it increasingly difficult to stay afloat due to declining ad revenue, prevalent ad fraud, and arbitrary monetization rules from platforms that utilize their content,” said Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave. “Brave Payments is a new system that enables seamless donations and reconnects content creators with their audience, and we hope this referral program will benefit creators even more by expanding the pool of contributors.”

There are currently over 8,000 Brave-verified publisher websites and YouTube channels. These include over 6,000 YouTube channels that have a combined total of more than 110 million subscribers. Brave will notify everyone about this program via email so that they can use the toolkit on the Publisher site to incentivize their users to take advantage of this campaign and collect BAT. BAT contributions are automatically converted to fiat and directly deposited into the publisher’s bank account via the Uphold account they create as part of the onboarding process.

Note: The tokens for this promotion are released from the BAT User Growth Pool (UGP), which was created during the sale of the utility tokens in May 2017. The UGP consists of approximately 300 million tokens set aside to incentivize users to join the Brave platform. We will distribute promotional BAT to current and new Brave-verified publishers on an approximately monthly basis. Publishers will receive BAT for qualified referrals within two to three weeks following the end of each monthly measurement period. The promotion will end when Brave has distributed all of the BAT allocated for the program.

About Brave Software

Brave Software’s (brave.com) fast, privacy-oriented browser combined with its blockchain-based digital advertising platform is resetting the web for users, publishers and advertisers. Users get a better, less cluttered and speedier web experience, publishers will increase their revenue share, and advertisers will receive better reporting. Brave’s micropayments and forthcoming opt-in anonymous ads provide a new way for publishers to monetize. The Brave solution is a win-win for everyone who has a stake in the open Web and who is weary of giving up privacy and revenue to the ad-tech intermediaries. Brave Software was co-founded by Brendan Eich, co-founder of Mozilla and creator of JavaScript, and Brian Bondy, formerly of Khan Academy and Mozilla.
